Nimidia & Vekleism

(Ongoing work)

Conception:

The story of Nimidia and Vekleism is the combination of three different projects I was working on: First was Vekleism, which was my attempt at making a unique fictional religion; second was Nimidia, which came from a concept I had of a fantasy world; third was the language of Vekleic, which originally had no ties to Vekleism, but since I had made a fictional script with no world to base it in, I decided Vekleism was a good fit.

How Magic is Produced:

Magic in Nimidia is only found in something known as "Khleduch." This is a mystical sap found in trace amounts in the Trees of the Enshrined. The methods used to extract said sap have changed over the course of its production, but today, only two general methods are still in use.

The first method is Dalükon, which is the most used. Dalükon is the process of peeling the bark off of a tree and pulverizing it with a mortar and pestle. This produces a dull magical effect. The powder made is oftentimes mixed with water and placed in special barrels to ferment for two weeks. Once it's ready for use, someone will either dip an item into the mixture in order to imbue it, or they will consume it in small quantities in order to receive some magical attributes (this practice is extraordinarily dangerous using the Dalükon method of production).

The second method is Hchüfon, which is much more potent. This process starts with, once again, peeling the bark off of a tree. Then, the bark is compressed with special machinery. The bark is very slowly squeezed over the course of about a month. The resulting amount of sap for an entire tree-worth of bark is only about half a cupful. This sap is then put through the same fermenting process (although with no distillation), and its use is similar: Imbuement or ingestion.

The resulting magical effect of Khleduch varies heavily across every use. Although there are known correlations between material, methods, and the resulting magical effect, a lot of it is still very unknown. Magical effects can vary from healing properties to weight-based properties. Truly, even the most studied of researchers cannot explain how to guarantee a specific effect. Also, since there are so many variations and types of properties, there are likely rare magical properties yet to be found.
